RHET attended Scotsheep early this month at Aikengall Farm, as part our Journey of Food Sheep and Wool project to engage schools and industry in educating the consumers of the future. As well as offering information to attendees at the event we also organised school visits.
All the school pupils coming along to Scotsheep had the chance to learn about stock judging from Emma Gray, one of our local Young Farmers.
We had 4 blackfaced sheep in a pen, and the pupils had to work out which one was the "Best In show"
All the guesses were examined and 3 pupils were identified as winners, with first place going to Edward from Duns and additional prizes for Roma from St Martins and Eden from Swinton
Edward's teacher said "I am so unbelievably excited for him! He loves farming and has been helping with lambing this year so will be thrilled!"
Lesley Mason RHET Scottish Borders Coordinator said “ Scotsheep is a great opportunity for young people to learn more about sheep farming and how the industry works and our stock judging competition was a great way of involving schools in some hands on learning.”
