Following a successful competition to design the prize-winning rosette for the sheep and wool classes at this year’s Royal Highland Show, we are delighted to announce the winning design.
The competition marks one of the final offerings from our academic programme ‘The Journey of Food: Sheep and Wool’ which has provided new learning opportunities and teacher training linked specifically to the sheep and wool topic.
Connie from Lamlash Primary school on the Isle of Arran designed the winning entry. Her beautifully designed rosette will now be presented at the 2004 Royal Highland Show to the show champions for each sheep breed, champion sheep young handler, and the overall wool champion.
Special commendations also go to Isla and Evan from Taynult Primary School for their rosette designs.
Shelia Bannerman and Fran Matheson, Sheep and wool project leads with RHET said
‘We would like to give a special thanks to all the pupils from schools across Scotland who took part in the competition. All the designs were creative and well thought out, making the judging tricky for the panel! The winning design stood out from the rest as the colours were well planned and different to the current Show rosettes, and the panel of judges are also looking forward to seeing how the gold centre and gold writing turns out in the final design. All the entries will be on display for you all to see in the RHET Discovery Centre at the Show. Well done again to everyone who took part.’
Lamlash primary school are (weather depending) looking to join us at the show this year to find out more about food and farming and see the rosettes designed by Connie on display in the sheep lines.
Alison Henderson class teacher at Lamlash Primary said ‘My class are very excited to come to the show and we have already been looking at a map of the showground and planning where we might go provided the weather is in our favour!’
