Help us celebrate British tomato fortnight! Whilst the weather outside might not be ideal for growing tomatoes, in Scotland the tomato crop is grown under glass. This means we can get hold of Scottish tomatoes for more months in the year. Tomatoes are packed full of vitamins A, C and E as well as being a great source of flavonoids and carotenoids
Producing great quality tomatoes, requires sunshine, warmth and the help of a lot of pollinating bees.
According to Katie Brisbane (Project Coordinator, RHET Forth Valley), ‘Tomatoes are fantastically versatile and can be enjoyed hot or cold’.
Find out more about the journey of the Scottish tomato here and have a quick go at our tomato quiz to see how much you know about the humble tomato.
The British Tomato Growers Association is also running a ‘tomatoes on toast photo competition’ so share your #tomsontoast pics to win a George Foreman grill, but hurry you only have until the 4th June.
