Over 100 pupils from four Perthshire primary schools swapped classrooms for the countryside last week (Tuesday 25th March) when they visited Rossie on the Earn, a stunning rural venue nestled in the heart of the Strathearn Valley.
Pupils from Forgandenny, Dumbarney, Goodlyburn, and Pitcairn Primary Schools took part in an engaging, interactive and educational, Food and Farming Day organised by the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) Perth & Kinross Countryside Initiative (PKCI). The day offered pupils the chance to explore farm life up close—learning where their food comes from, how it’s produced, and the important role of Scottish farmers in managing the land sustainably.
From meeting animals and discovering their care, to exploring crops and soil health, the pupils were immersed in a hands-on experience that brought the countryside to life. For many, it was their first time stepping foot on a working farm—an unforgettable opportunity to connect with the land. RHET were able to run this event in Perth due to funding by the Scottish Government who they would like to thank.
Tara Clark, Project Co-ordinator for RHET Perth & Kinross said:
“Rossie on the Earn provided a brilliant setting for this memorable day. The children were buzzing with curiosity, and it was a joy to see them so engaged. We’re incredibly grateful to the team at Rossie for their warm welcome and for supporting outdoor learning in such a meaningful way.”
“This was a fantastic well organised event and all my pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was excellent to go around and hear information from all the different stations. “ Emma Naughton P3/4 Teacher, Pitcairn Primary School
