The farm and working countryside can offer experiential learning opportunities, linked to Curriculum for Excellence outcomes, whilst enjoying fresh air and outdoor learning.
Who?
Visits are free to pupils in primary and secondary education.
Pupils must be aged 5 years and over.
The farmers and growers who host school groups give us their time for free.
Where?
Please complete the online form which will go to your local Project Coordinator who will handle your enquiry.
When?
Farm visits can take place all year round. We do ask you consider submitting your request as far in advance as possible. There are busy times in the farming calendar which may impact on the ability to meet your request.
How?
Before pupils visit a farm, a pre-visit between teacher, farmer and coordinator will be held on farm to discuss the route, health & safety procedures (a site specific risk assessment is provided), what pupils have been covering in class or what would be useful to clarify during the visit.
The Industry Code of Practice details the precautions necessary to reduce the risk of ill health arising from contact with animals. It is worthwhile reading over before your farm visit takes place.
Please visit the HSE website for information onĀ preventing or avoiding ill health from animal contact.
