I live in the East of Fife on a mixed farm of dairy, beef and sheep. Our farm is very much family run. I am a keen member of Bell Baxter ADS. I enjoy meeting new people and getting involved in new things. I left school back in May at the end of my 5th year. I am currently taking a year out before going on to Edinburgh next year to study Rural Business Management. In my 5th year of high school, I was a prefect, which involved helping around the school and at events. I have also worked within the hospitality industry, so dealing with the public on a regular basis. I look forward to being involved with RHET Fife.
I am 23 and from South Lanarkshire. I have been a member of her local Young Farmers Club, Carluke, since I was 14, progressing through the committee to Secretary and now sit on the Young Farmers National Development and Wellbeing Committee and International Travel Committee. I graduated from Glasgow School of Art as an Architectural Assistant in June 2021 and completed my Thesis Report on the importance of connecting city residents and children to their food supply through urban agriculture and education spaces.
My name is Abby Forsyth and I am 23 years old. I live with my partner on his beef farm just outside Annan, where they farm a herd of Pedigree Simmentals. I am currently working at C and D Auction Marts as an Office Administrator, based at the Dumfries Office and I thoroughly enjoy communicating with farmers and helping them in any way I can. I am also an active member of Stewartry Young Farmers, and have been for the last 9 years. Young Farmers has provided me with a variety of skills that have been invaluable to all aspects of my life. Talent Spot has to be my favourite event as I the concept of putting a performance together as a club and I also love dancing, having been a member of my University Dance Team for 3 years.
I am delighted to have been selected onto the RHET Ambassador Programme and can't wait to get started. I am very passionate about the agricultural world and the service it provides and want to help in educating the younger generation to ensure the benefits of farming continue to be promoted.
My name is Meghan Carson, I am 21 years old and current club secretary for Stewartry Young Farmers having been on the committee for 3 years and involved with the club as a whole for 4 years. I come from a farming background where my Dad is a shepherd, last year I was lucky enough to start my own small flock of Traditional Bluefaced Leicesters. I have recently graduated from SRUC with a degree in Rural Business Management and now working full time at the local mart.
Hi I’m Lois and I’m a primary school teacher in Angus. I have grown up on my family farm and always had an interest in agriculture. In my spare time I enjoy helping out on the farm with our cattle.
My name is Kathryn Dick, I’m 23 years old and derive from an arable farm in the Central Belt, where I also run my own flock of sheep. I studied agriculture at SRUC Edinburgh and currently work as an agricultural journalist for The Scottish Farmer, which has taken me all over the country and introduced me to so many amazing people within the industry. I’m also an active member and past secretary of my local young farmers club, SSS YFC. I’m very much looking forward to working with RHET and contributing to the correct education of agriculture directly to children in the classroom and on the farm!
My name is Eve Newlands and I am a dental student at the University of Dundee currently in my second year part B, after having to repeat the practical of second year due to COVID. I grew up on Cluny Farm in Morayshire which is an upland beef and sheep farm near Forres. I am the Assistant Secretary of Deveron and Speyside District Young Farmers and am currently the acting secretary for Lower Speyside Young Farmers Club due to our secretary moving away recently. Out-with university and the farm I am a keen netballer, swimmer and clay pigeon shooter and spend a lot of time socialising with friends and making the most of any young farmers dance or event.
My name is Jess and I’m a second year agricultural student. I like to spend my time outdoors, hillwalking and helping on the farm. I’ve been in Young Farmers since 2017 and been lucky enough to do loads of fun activities with them since.
My name is Caitlin Ross, born and raised on our family farm on the Bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. I now work full time with my parents on our beef and sheep farm after returning home from agricultural college. I’ve been involved in young farmers for many years and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities and skills I’ve taken from it. I’m very much looking forward to working with RHET and the younger generations, helping to share our amazing industry messages and the benefits that it brings.
My name is Christina Smith, I’m 21 years old and I’m currently in my final year studying Accountancy and Finance at Heriot Watt University. I’m originally from a dairy farm near Campbeltown on the West coast which I’m very much still involved with and enjoy helping my parents with milking, feeding calves and driving silage during my uni holidays. I’m also an active member and past secretary of Edinburgh young farmers as well as a club member of Campbeltown YF. I’m looking forward to taking on this role as the Lothians YF Ambassador as I feel it is of upmost importance to educate and promote the agricultural industry to the next generation and help to explain to them where their food comes from.
My name is Holly Farquharson and I’m my final year of school continuing my education by studying rural business management at SRUC in September. I am a keen member of East Fife JAC and have grown up surrounded by the countryside and plenty horses! Having a family who’s background is farming, I have been privileged to learn and understand how food is produced and the effort of farmers. Owning a family restaurant really allows me to understand the benefit of local produce. I am delighted to be a RHET Ambassador and excited to educate people on agriculture!
Hi, I'm Mary and I am a farm and small animal vet in Kelso. I grew up on my family's beef and sheep farm near Lauder. I have been a member of Ettrick and Lauderdale JAC (young farmers) for 10 years and I am excited to now be a RHET ambassador.
My name is Fraser Graham, I am 25 years old, and I work on a mixed farm along the banks and braes of the bonnie Doon in South Ayrshire. I studied at SRUC in Ayr for 4 years and graduated in 2017 with a BSc(hons) in Agriculture, before returning home to join the family business. I love my job, however, sometimes I don't love the Scottish weather.
I am also a member of Crossroads Young Farmers club and was delighted to take on the role of Club Treasurer in March this year. Young Farmers is an fantastic organisation, being the original 'social-network' of the farming community, whether it's meeting new friends, or keeping up with old ones.
In my spare time, I'm also a keen musician, and can be found on most Friday and Saturday nights playing the drums in a ceilidh band.
I'm delighted to be part of RHET and look forward to seeing everyone out and about this year!
