The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) is thrilled to announce a creative collaboration, that brings together culinary expertise, media talent and educational storytelling. Working alongside podcasting and media students from City of Glasgow College and renowned chef, educator and broadcaster Gary Maclean, we have produced engaging audio content for our brand-new festive story: “Carrots for Rudolph’s Party.”

This audio offering for early/first level learners, is part of our ‘Story of Vegetables’ initiative and is designed to bring some extra festive sparkle into schools in the lead up to Christmas.  This audio-visual offering will help teachers inspire young learners about food, farming, seasonality and the importance of healthy eating in a fun and interactive way. The story follows Rudolph and his friends as they prepare for a special party, highlighting the role of local, seasonal carrots in keeping everyone energized for the big night.

Behind the Scenes: A Creative Collaboration

The journey to create this audio story was a fantastic example of teamwork and innovation. Media students Gregor Farquharson and Nathaniel Hazlie from City of Glasgow College brought their technical skills and creativity to the table, handling everything from sound recording to editing. Their enthusiasm and professionalism ensured the audio is engaging and polished.

Chef Gary Maclean added his unique perspective as Scotland’s National Chef, bringing warmth and authenticity to the narration. His passion for food education perfectly aligns with RHET’s mission to connect young people with the origins of their food.

Together, this partnership showcases how education, media and culinary arts can combine to create something truly special for all learners across Scotland.

Why This Matters
Everything offered through RHET is free to use because we believe in making learning about food and farming accessible and enjoyable for all.  As a charity, we rely on the generosity of supporters to continue delivering these high-quality educational experiences. Collaborations like this not only showcase Scotland’s incredible talent but also help us connect children to the origins of their food.  If you’d like to support our work and help us reach even more young learners, please consider funding or partnering with us.
