RHET ACI recently managed to take Borrowfield Primary School’s Forest School Group of P4-7s along to the 2025 Scottish Ploughing Championships. This event moves around the country and so it was only in Angus this year and the chosen venue was Arbikie Farm, just a few miles outside Montrose.
The visit built on the Tractor Day that was held at the school earlier in the year and allowed the pupils to see a huge range of tractors ploughing, some even bigger than the tractor that Farmer Jim bought along to their school and others even older than the 50 year old Ford that his son Arran bought in and used to create the new growing area beside their polytunnel.
Pupils enjoyed a trailer ride around the site to get an overview of all the tractors competing and had great fun speaking to staff on the Ross Agri, Netherton Tractors and Sellars trade stands, some even coming away having won caps and other goodies. The highlight of the day for many of the pupils was seeing the horse teams ploughing, a particularly special sight whatever your age!
It was cold, very windy and even started to rain, but we didn’t hear one complaint about the weather
